We are a family on a quest to make what we need when possible.
We reside in the suburbs of Chicago, with a relatively small yard.
What that means is:
No, we won't be raising sheep to get my own wool, but I might knit what we need.
No, we won't be growing our own wheat to grind in order to bake with, but we will bake as much as we can.
No, we won't be cutting down trees and cutting our own wood should a need for wood come up (although my husband did chop up logs at a farm recently for us to put into our little fire pit!)
No, we won't stop shopping at grocery stores.
No, we won't be walking away from technology either!
No, we won't be making everything.
No, this is not an experiment to pretend like we live in the 1600's (although I must admit, I'd be on board for that kind of experiment too. The rest of my family, they might just come to the conclusion I have gone completely crazy should I try to get them to go that extreme).
This will simply be the five us doing what we can, as we can do it.
